Becoming a triathlete before 2027: episode 1
New challenge, new series: becoming a triathlete before 2027. My level in running, cycling and swimming (I start from zero), and the goal: an M-distance tri.
New video, new challenge. For several months now I’ve had one goal in mind: doing a triathlon. Becoming a triathlete by 2027? Why not. Here’s episode 1 of a new series where I document the whole thing, vlog style.
How I got here
Running unlocked sport for me so much that I kept going: I got into cycling, then recently into swimming, and now I love it. So the logical step was to bring it all together into one sport: triathlon.
My level, discipline by discipline
- Running: that one’s fine. My half-marathon last year and 600 km over the year, I feel ready for the run leg.
- Cycling: average level, around a 25 km/h average over 25-30 km.
- Swimming: I start from zero, folks. But learning a new sport is so cool. I’ve already done 1250 m in the pool (with a lovely calf cramp that calmed me down halfway through).
The goal
An M-distance triathlon in October in Toulouse: 1.5 km swim, bike and run. My first milestone is stringing together 1.5 km in the pool in one go. If I hold that, I move to 2 km in the pool to be ready for a 1.5 km open-water swim, something I’ve never done and which looks a fair bit harder.
And right before all that, I’ve got my 10 km trail this Sunday. It’s all stacking up.
The format
I’m going for one video a week, more vlog than polished edit, because that’s what I like to watch. I start from zero, I taught myself everything, and if it inspires one or two people, that’s already a win. If you have triathlon tips, drop them in the comments, subscribe to the channel, and to watch the episode, it’s here.
